A Word From Our Founders
Outland Renewable Energy is the energy company that practicality built. Just the sort of thinking you might expect from a group of Minnesota farmers. A company built on plain common sense and the sincerity of a handshake. A great harvest of carbonless energy that works for the good of the environment. And a challenge that produced a perfectly natural opportunity for rural communities to profit by providing for America’s energy needs.

We are Outland Renewable Energy. And we thank you for your interest.

  Dennis Fultz
Dennis Fultz took a drive to the top of Buffalo Ridge, which is about 30 minutes from his home in Tracy, Minn., and examined one of the first wind farms in the state of Minnesota, and he wondered if his farm had just as strong a wind as they had on top of the ridge. His next steps were finding the right connections for his idea and for the wind. This led him to the Goeman brothers and neighbor John Nelson; and thus, the creation of Outland.

Dennis' motto: The sum is greater than the parts. In other words, it is better to work together than work alone.

  Bernard Fultz
If you asked Bernie Fultz, who has farmed for more than sixty years, what he thought of wind before 2004, he would have told you that it was his enemy. Wind is something Bernie always had to fight as farmer. It wracked havoc when spraying his crops, it blew his corn crops over, and it lodged the beans in the ground. One year, a tornado (which is wind) nearly destroyed his home as well as the homes of his two sons who live nearby. For Bernie, wind was a curse until his son Dennis presented him with an opportunity to turn an old foe into a friend.

  Elton Goeman
Elton Goeman epitomizes the saying that actions speak louder than words. He would rather show you the possibilities that the land can offer rather sit in a meeting to discuss a proposal. Elton watched the first wind towers go up on the land to the west of him, and he knew then that wind was in his future.

  Larry Goeman
Living in and around Jeffers, Minn. his entire life, Larry Goeman knows the potential of the area. In fact, Larry was a man before his time because he tried in 1996 to generate an interest in wind farms because he knew Jeffers had a terrific wind source . However, it was not until future-partner Dennis Fultz stopped by the home of Larry's brother, Elton Goeman, on New Year's Day of 2004 that wind energy would become reality in Jeffers.

Larry's motto: Be honest in all of your dealings and you can never be too young or old to benefit from wind.

  John Nelson
Before founding Outland, John Nelson would often drive around the Buffalo Ridge area appreciating the majestic look of the wind tower and the power they produce. "I found the towers striking and stately, and I knew there was great potential for clean energy as I watched the blades rotate," John said. "But I was disappointed because I found that most of the towers were private and the owners did not involve the local people in the project."
