Living in and around Jeffers, Minn. his entire life, Larry Goeman knows the potential of the area. In fact, Larry was a man before his time because he tried in 1996 to generate an interest in wind farms because he knew Jeffers had a terrific wind source . However, it was not until future-partner Dennis Fultz stopped by the home of Larry’s brother, Elton Goeman, on New Year’s Day of 2004 that wind energy would become reality in Jeffers.
Larry never hesitated when Dennis proposed the concept of Outland because he knew that developing wind meant dollars and sense for the landowner. “It was a way to look at land differently, Larry said. “This type of land development could mean continued prosperity for the next generation.” The original project was only going to be 10 megawatts, but the project and other ideas snowballed. “Outland just fell into place, and the people that we picked along the way were the right ones at the right time,” Larry added. Larry now sits on the board of governors for Outland where he ensures that future projects move forward and acts as a local liaison for the Jeffers community to answer any wind-related questions. Larry also continues to farm with his brother and fellow Outlander, Elton. They formed Goeman Brothers Farm in 1973. Larry and his wife, Melody, have two children, Holly and Grant. Along with being a life-long farmer, Larry is also strong believer in civic duty as he served on the Jeffers elevator board for nine years, the farm credit board for fives years, and the Highwater Lutheran church board for 9 years. Larry currently serves on the board of directors of the State Bank of Jeffers. Larry’s motto: Be honest in all of your dealings and you can never be too young or old to benefit from wind. |
